Health Notes: Back to School and It’s that time of year again to get your kids back into the school routine which also usually means a new sleep routine. Kids need to switch to an earlier morning rising time that comes with the start of school and is a source frustration for parents. Getting kids to bed at a decent hour can be met with fits of refusal. Even though we all know that a good night’s sleep is important for the kids and helps them perform better in the classroom. School aged children who got the recommended 11 hours per night of sleep performed better in school when their parents enforced regular bedtimes. Kids who used technology late into the night had more difficulty concentrating and staying awake and alert in the classroom. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children of the following ages get these amounts of sleep: Infants 14-15 hours; Toddlers 12-14; Preschoolers 11-13 hours; School-age 10-11 hours; Teenagers 9-10 hours. If your child won’t sleep at bedtime it may be a sleep hygiene issue. Nearly a quarter of children have some kind of sleep complaint, whether its outright refusal to sleep or frequent trips to the bathroom. Other tips for helping kids get a good night sleep: Helping to Keep Kids Healthy during School Returning to school is the return to increased exposure to germs. While not every germ kids come in contact with will make them sick, teaching your kids to adopt a few healthy habits will help prevent the spread of those germs that do cause sickness. Henry the Hand is a program designed for kids to remember back infection control guidelines. The basic principles are: For more information on Henry the Hand, you will see posters around the church for the kids and you can visit the website at: http://www.henrythehand.com/pages/content/index.html.

Right now we are without a coffee hour coordinator. Starting September 26th a new coffee hour plan will be on trial until December. During this trial period please voice your thoughts, suggestions and opinions. With the donations received during the coffee hour we will purchase donut holes from Pierce’s of Portage. Pierce’s does not offer a delivery service so the donuts will need to be picked up. I spoke with Steve, from The Fort BP on the corner of 33 and County Road F, and he offered to pick up our order each Sunday when he picks up his order. New responsibilities for the host/hostess of coffee hour: Our hopes are to structure a simple, stress free coffee hour . Of course, if the host and/or hostess sponsoring the coffee hour would like to do more it would be completely acceptable and appreciated. If you have any questions or thoughts on this, please contact Lisa Zellmer at 608-697-5792. KKKKKKKK

A list of names and numbers will be provided to you. Consecration Sunday Is Coming Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, these congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with The church council of Bethlehem Lutheran has selected the Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our Stewardship education emphasis this year. Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues; we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the questions, “what percentage of my We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete “estimate of giving” cards. During worship on October 6th and 10th members will be making their commitments as a confidential act of We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and church council. Since we will make no follow-up visits or phone calls to ask people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday Worship. Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events.

Special Congregational Meeting – On Sunday September 19th, we request your presence at a short special meeting of the congregation at 9 am. The council and stewardship committee have formed a resolution to establish a mission endowment fund. The mission endowment fund is a tool for Bethlehem to receive and manage gifts to do mission work locally, regionally, and globally. One of the exciting things about the mission endowment fund is that it manages gifts to the fund such that they are never "used up" and continue to do their work year after year. Approval of this resolution is needed at a special meeting of the congregation. It is expected to be a short meeting and this is the only topic that we will focus on. Copies of the resolution will be available for review before the meeting. !!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully you have been enjoying the Memorial Prayer Garden. Thank you to Dick Olson for his tireless effort that made this dream become a wonderful reality for our congregation. Thank you to all those who saw this project to its completion. Bob and Cloe Rehdantz put the finishing touches on the prayer Garden with the renovation and installation of the church sign at the parking lot entrance. The sign was salvaged from our former church on the corner of Dewitt and Franklin. Thank you to Bob and Cloe for holding on to the sign until just the right time and place. Thank you to our money counters, Judy Donahue and Gladys Bell. They are behind the scenes each week counting and making sure the church giving is CJCJCJCJCJCJCJCJC
